Treating some healthcare departments and reaching their data is the new normal for hackers and gangs. This is what happened recently.
Connecticut’s largest healthcare system Yale New Haven was under the data breach. 4/5,000,000 people’s data was stolen. This all came to knowledge after the legal notice to the government healthcare department.
In this breach, the hackers got their hands on patients and their personal data as well as their health conditions.
The healthcare data includes
● Name of the patient
● Gender
● Race and ethnicity
● Location and house address
● Social Security numbers
● Health conditions
● Phone numbers
● Numbers of medical record
The bridge was still under observation that’s why the number of patients might change after some research. although the main reason for the attack is unknown but according to the New Haven spokesperson. This attack has one reason it was solely for ransomware
The nature of the attack can easily tell that it was the work of a person or a group of persons who are expert in these kinds of attacks. Which means they have done these attacks in the past also.
It is unknown to us if there was any demand for payment or if there was another kind of demand apart from payment.
There was no demand publicly made by the hackers or the group. And many kisses these hackers do not stop to extort the data of patients or any other data that they stole after the negotiation of ransom fails.
These kinds of data breaches are common because the gangs and hackers are always targeting healthcare institutions to gain information on sensitive data and medical records.
With these attacks the hackers steal Social Security numbers. They use these numbers to extort money and other sensitive information later on.
Now the authority can avoid these kinds of breaches by simply taking their security on a higher level. It is crucial to maintain goodwill with the consumers that’s why the healthcare departments should prioritise taking care of the sensitive information of their corresponding users.
Sometimes these attacks have simple targets that are to gain as much sensitive information as they can. Then this information is sold to those who are looking into sensitive matters of different countries.
